Alexander McQueen Memorial

The who's who of fashion gathered in London today to pay homage to the late Alexander McQueen during London Fashion Week. Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Campbell were among those taking a break from London Fashion Week to attend the memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral. The Sex and the City actress, wearing McQueen's creations, couldn't help but shed a tear as she she said a final farewell to the talented designer, whose suicide in February rocked the industry.

Kate cut a sombre figure as she emerged wearing sunglasses, looking stylish in a leather pencil skirt, tuxedo jacket and Christian Louboutin heels. Naomi wore a flamboyant feather creation and gold-heeled platform boots while Sarah Jessica opted for a black trench and white dress.

US Vogue editor Anna Wintour and British designers Pam Hogg and Stella Mcartney were also present amid the sea of black designs, as well as heiress Daphne Guinness.

Lee Alexander McQueen's suicide in February rocked the industry. The 40-year-old's body was discovered by his housekeeper in a wardrobe at his flat in Mayfair, central London, the day before his mother Joyce's funeral. An inquest heard the designer hanged himself after taking a cocktail of cocaine, sleeping pills and tranquillisers. He had a history of depression, anxiety and insomnia and had researched suicide on the internet before taking his life.
The fashion world later queued up to pay tribute to the openly gay designer who began his career with an apprenticeship at Savile Row tailor's Anderson & Sheppard. He went on to become one of the most respected figures in the industry after his entire graduation collection was bought by influential stylist Isabella Blow.

Before his death, he was known for his daring creations that sometimes tipped over into the shocking and bizarre, drawing him critical acclaim and several awards. But his unconventional fashion shows, which once featured a life-sized hologram of Kate Moss, had became synonymous with his style.

Long Live McQueen!
