Review: Organic Raw Coconut Oil

I recently blogged about this 100% Organic Raw Coconut Oil from Viridian Nutrition which can be used in cooking and as a beauty treatment for skin or hair. Viridian Organic Raw Coconut Oil is a premium quality product made by hand in the Philippines and is certified organic by the Soil Association. This raw 100% organic virgin coconut oil is from the flesh of the coconut and since the suppliers live in the community where the coconuts grow, they ensure that the best quality coconuts are used in the production of this coconut oil. The oil can be used as a hair and skin treatment or in cooking as it’s a rich organic source of fatty acids supportive nutritionally in the maintenance of healthy skin.

Balm melting into oil
The oil comes in a heavy glass jar, and in raw form the oil is in a white solid balm texture - reminds me of candle wax. I found it easier to scoop out a small amount of the balm with a spoon (one tablespoon was enough to cover the whole of my hair). As soon as the white balm touches skin it begins to melt into an oil and it smells delicious - like coconut macaroons. I used this as a pre-treatment before washing my hair and applied the oil evenly through my scalp to the ends of my hair, combed through and left on my hair for an hour. I then washed my hair, shampooing twice to make sure all the oil had been removed and conditioned as normal.

Afterwards my hair was shiny and felt super soft and glossy. I don't feel like the oil repaired any damage as good as my current favourite treatment oil Ojon but it did moisturise my hair well. I would recommend using this treatment once a week or as when needed, and with the oil being so versatile you can use it for cooking and moisturising skin, you only need a small amount so is very good value for money.

Viridian Organic Raw Coconut Oil retails at £14 for a 500g tub and is available from all good independent health stores nationwide http://www.viridian-nutrition.com Have you ever used Coconut Oil as a hair treatment?

  3. A recent study found coconut oil helps reduce protein loss in the hair shaft and may also improve moisture levels better than mineral oil and olive oil. I've posted a link to step-by-step instructions on how you can use this natural oil to improve dry thinning hair. Good luck and I hope this method works for you!
