Review: ghd air Hairdryer

I have loved ghd straighteners ever since I bought my first pair back in 2002 and now a decade later, they have brought out it's perfect partner: ghd air. If you didn't know, ghd stands for 'good hair day'. You may remember that I blogged about the launch of the high spec new ghd air hairdryer hailed as the 'Aston Martin of hair care' be prepared to be blown away!

It has been developed in conjunction with professional styling experts, the ghd air is designed to help you unlock the secret to a gorgeous salon blow dry, every day. I have been using my trusty Toni & Guy Hairdryer for over 10 years and at the time it was the best hairdryer on the market, and as you can see there is no comparison to the new ghd air. I was definitely long overdue a trade in for a newer model!

Featuring a sleek design, powerful professional 2100 watt AC motor for the fastest blow-dry ever and advanced ionic technology, it delivers exceptionally fast drying and styling while helping to reduce frizz, leaving your hair soft and silky. An extra long power cable for flexibility, two sizes of concentrator nozzle, ionic technology for an effortlessly frizz-free and smoother finish, and variable heat and speed settings, plus a cold shot, make a salon-style blow dry  achievable every day. Ultimately sleek and stylish, the specifically designed ergonomic shape gives you total control over your style creation – whilst looking elegantly chic at the same time. An ideal tool to help create a salon look at home, the new ghd air boasts the following benefits:

Advanced Ionic Technology: for reduced frizz and a silkier, softer finish
Cool shot button: for a quick blast of cool air to fix your look in place
Salon strength AC motor: for more powerful drying
2 concentrator nozzles: helping to create a wide variety of styles
Ergonomic design: for easy handling and maximum control

The large packaging box is chic and perfect to store all your hair tools or hair bits and bobs. The ghd air itself is compact and sleek, but well made and solid with lovely chrome detailing. The most amazing thing was it took less than 2 minutes to dry my long, frizzy curly hair and that wasn't on the highest heat setting! Normally it would take a good 10-15 minutes on the highest heat setting.

It definitely helped to reduce frizz in fact I didn't really need to smooth my hair afterwards with my straighteners which is unheard of! It looked like I had visited the hair fairy and I just roughly dried my hair rather than using a bristle brush. I love that it has different heat settings and speeds and a cool shot and the extra long 3M cord is very handy if you ever have to plug in the hairdryer and the mirror is across the room! Overall I am suitably impressed with the ghd air, and my old hairdryer will be donated to the charity shop.

The ghd air costs £99 and is available now from http://www.ghdhair.com/hair-dryers/ghd-air, and Feel Unique Have you tried the ghd air? Would love to hear your thoughts.

  4. 2100 watts: wow i love that! This hair dryer is going to be on buyapowa soon. Love the brand, love the wattage but I am used to use travel hair dryers even at home (just for space saving really). I'd love to have one 'exactly' the same but foldable and now we would be really talking :)

  6. When looking for a new hair dryer I have noticed its hard to seperate and compare other than size and spec, which provides no real life hands on insight.

    Launching a dryer at price double most competitors the GHD creates a 'i want one of those niche' I don't doubt this is perhaps the best hairdryer, but I do want to understand how it stacks up to the competition on two counts;

i/ cost as the typical 2000-2300w hairdryers are sub £40, with a some branded dryers around £60, so at £99 this is a high price.

ii/ hair care, a reduction to 2 mins from 10-15 mins, long term and with frequent use sounds like it could melt hair - lower heat and good use of cool shot will just increase drying time again.

When a hair dryer can live for ten years plus, this puts the £99 GHD at £10 per year, a small cost. We are getting to why I am on the fence when judging the GHD dryer, the warranty is just one year while competitors offer 3 years on £30 dryers. If GHD believe they have created the best dryer ever and it meets the high spec of a saloon dryer used 5 hours for 5-6 days every week, they should offer consumers a longer warranty, 5years would be appropriate, 7 years and I'd buy a few as gifts.

All replies welcome, especially anyone with first hand experience and your views on the warrenty. Perhaps GHD will read and consider.

    2. Thanks so much Bryan for your insight!

This hair dryer has just been launched in NZ and is selling at the heart attack-inducing price of NZ$249. My hairdryer decided to die last week and I was on the fence over whether to splash out and buy this hairdryer or go for the same one I had (it was only a Phillips Tresemme one - around NZ$65, but it was honestly fantastic).
However, other than the price, the pathetic warranty was the deal-breaker. I ended up getting just a cheap-ish one, but it still has the tourmaline ionic technology, is 2000 watts and has three heat settings and two speed settings AS WELL AS a cool shot button. I tried it today for the first time, and on my frizzy, awful hair it worked a dream. Oh, and it has a 3 year warranty.

In saying that, you are absolutely right in pointing out that the price and brand gives this GHD air an exclusivity which alas, only makes it more desirable despite my contentment with this new hair dryer. I couldn't live without my GHD straightners, but maybe until more is known about the hair dryer I will hold onto my $250.

I look forward to GHD answering your insightful questions!

      Thank you! :)

  8. looks good. I've tried different hair dryers and the best one for me is the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Hair Dryer which works to add shine, softness and faster drying, seals the cuticle, repels humidity and locks in hair color. Plus it keeps my hair healthy and pretty. I love it ! :P
